CES provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services for the renovation and addition of Welles-Turner Memorial Library, including a 33,000-square-foot renovation and a 5,000-square-foot addition. The project supports the library’s continued evolution as a creative community hub.
The most recent phase focused on a Maker Space addition, with CES designing HVAC systems including a 10-ton chiller, VRF system, and dedicated outdoor air system, along with modified ductwork and diffusers serving renovated areas. Electrical improvements included LED lighting and controls, a permanent generator, and updates to power and data infrastructure, while fire protection systems were extended to serve the addition.
Previously, CES supported renovations to the checkout desk and second-floor study areas and coordinated infrastructure upgrades for an automated library materials collection system. Working within historic structure constraints required careful coordination, particularly where space was limited, while still supporting modern library operations.
