CES is providing comprehensive MEP/FP, technology, data, and security engineering services for UMass Memorial Health (UMMH)’s new Nashoba Satellite Emergency Facility—a freestanding emergency department designed to restore critical care access to the surrounding community.

The facility includes trauma and observation rooms, a full imaging suite (CT, X-ray, and ultrasound), and on-site laboratory services. Key system features include a custom rooftop conditioning unit with energy recovery, a hot-water boiler system powering helipad snow melt, medical gas systems with bulk oxygen storage, robust emergency life-safety and critical power systems, a high-efficiency generator, and eight electric vehicle charging stations to support sustainable campus operations.

Working collaboratively with the design team, CES produced early-release design packages and engaged in early BIM coordination to accelerate construction, all while planning for future expansion. Because this emergency department represents the first phase of a larger development—including a forthcoming medical office building—CES is strategically sizing all systems to accommodate long-term growth and future load demands.

By delivering a complete and coordinated design on an aggressive schedule, CES is helping UMMH move rapidly toward reopening essential emergency services in a region currently without nearby care.
