UConn Health relocated its Torrington Clinical Practice into approximately 11,500 sf of existing commercial space, transforming two floors into a new outpatient medical facility serving northwest Connecticut. The facility consolidates primary and specialty care services in one location, with spaces for Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Women’s Health, Imaging/X-Ray, and blood draw services. The program also includes exam rooms, reception and registration areas, provider offices, clean and soiled utility rooms, staff support areas, a casting room, radiology suite, and teaching and administrative spaces.
CES provided MEP/FP engineering services for the renovation and conversion of the existing commercial space to support its new clinical use. New fire protection, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems were provided throughout the facility. The all-electric HVAC design utilizes energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump systems for heating and cooling, eliminating the need for fossil fuel-based heating.
Systems were carefully coordinated to accommodate challenging floor-to-floor height constraints on the lower level while supporting the specialized requirements of the new clinical environment.
