CES is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and lighting design services for the renovation and addition of Somersworth Public Library. The work focuses on replacing outdated building systems and improving ventilation and comfort, particularly in the basement.
The existing building layout required careful coordination in the basement, where building services enter the facility. CES worked within these constraints to route new systems and penetrations while improving ventilation and air quality in areas that had long been under-ventilated.
The design includes energy recovery, VRF heat pumps, and a heat pump rooftop unit, reducing reliance on natural gas where existing systems remain. The project targets a predicted energy use intensity of 49 kBtu/sf/year, representing a meaningful improvement over baseline performance.
