Utilizing an existing mid-century ranch house’s footprint this design included a second story, rear expansion and a fresh, contemporary aesthetic to the entire exterior. The result is a three story (below grade parking) modern home for seven. CES collaborated closely with the client, who was also the architect of this unique home, to achieve their sustainability goals. Analysis of how the home was being used allowed our team to tweak program inputs resulting in a near net zero facility. Officially, the home has a HERS rating of 6. CES’ design includes a 22.365 kW solar system consisting of 71, 315 watt PV modules. The solar panels were mounted flat on the roof in order to keep a low profile.
