CES provided MEP/FP engineering design services for a new 3,500 sf private residence in upstate New York overlooking the Catskill Mountains, accompanied by a detached garage and pool house of approximately 800 sf each. Located on a wooded hillside property, the home is positioned along the site’s crest to capture expansive views while maintaining a connection to the surrounding forest and open meadows.

Inspired by the forms and shadows of oak leaves found on the property, the architecture features a sweeping curved roof and large expanses of glass that frame views of the surrounding landscape. Over time, the property evolved into an active rural homestead with livestock, pastures, and outbuildings that extend the living experience beyond the home.

CES designed building systems to support comfortable year-round living while maintaining reliability appropriate for a rural setting. Mechanical systems include air-source heat pumps for primary heating and cooling, supplemented by modulating condensing boilers that provide radiant floor heating for enhanced comfort. Electrical infrastructure includes a propane-fired backup generator to maintain operation during outages.
