CES provided complete MEP/ FP engineering design services for the renovation and restoration of the historic M.D. Fox School, originally built in 1924. Many of the school’s original features such as the exterior masonry, window millwork, whimsical carvings and interior stone detailing were carefully restored, keeping the historically significant character of the school.

Designed per the International Energy Conservation Code, the finished design exceeds ASHRAE, City of Hartford and current energy efficiency standards.  A Building Management System (BMS) controls the mechanical and selected electrical systems to avoid unnecessary energy consumption.  The heating for both space and domestic water is provided by two natural gas fired boilers with an outdoor air system to incorporate fresh air into interior spaces.

Bathrooms throughout the school feature low flow fixtures and high efficiency toilet technology (1.28 gallons/ flush). All classrooms have ceiling mounted dual technology occupancy sensors with wall overrides. Daylight sensors and dimming controls were installed in all rooms with exterior window walls.  A new fire protection system was also installed.
