The new Beman Middle School was completed in three phases. Phase one included demolition of the existing auditorium and administrative offices, along with the addition of a temporary bus loop and parent drop-off area. Phase two involved construction of a new 150,000-square-foot school building, while phase three focused on completing, furnishing, and occupying the new facility, followed by demolition of the old school.
To significantly reduce the building’s energy consumption, CES incorporated chilled beams, condensing boilers, variable-speed and energy recovery ventilation systems, high-performance lighting and controls, and a direct digital control (DDC) system. Extensive daylight harvesting was utilized to maximize natural light through glazing, reducing overall lighting power use. The final design achieved a LEED Silver-equivalent level of sustainability.
